Program Objectives

Our Objectives for the Select Program are:

  • To provide an optimal player development program that is consistent with national standards and best practices.
  • To allow players to maximize their potential and reach the highest level that their ambition, desire, and talent will take them.
  • To field highly-competitive teams at multiple levels of competition for players in all of the U11 through U19 age groups.
  • To provide regular guidance to those players who aspire to play at the ODP and collegiate levels.
  • To keep the costs of soccer as affordable as possible so that players from all socio-economic backgrounds can play at the level that matches their current ability.

Our curriculum is designed to develop skilled, intelligent, and well-rounded players, and is delivered by licensed trainers and coaches. We strive to provide a value-based program that is convenient and affordable for all families, that offers playing levels appropriate for players of all ability levels, and that fosters a love of the game.

We will offer select teams at all levels of play offered by STYSA. Teams may compete at the Division I, Super II or Division I Qualifying levels in the STYSA Dynamo/Dash League or locally in the SYSA Division II league.

Training: Provided three days per week, 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 hours per session. One session will focus on technical/tactical topics, one on team tactics, and one on functional (position-specific) training. Players will be expected to attend at least two sessions each week, and will be strongly encouraged to attend all three each week.

What Parents Need to Know About the Select Program

  • Teams are formed by player evaluation in the May/June timeframe and will participate in both fall and spring seasons.
  • The annual registration fee covers year round training, club administration costs, player insurance, facility maintenance, referee fees, and association dues. A nominal spring registration fee may apply if teams choose to enter in to a Spring Cup or league play.
  • Division II games are typically played within the SE Texas area at one of the participating clubs complexes.
  • Division I or Super II games are typically played in the Houston area at a predetermined field agreed upon by the club or here at the Gulf Coast Complex. Most Houston area games are played within 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes from the Gulf Coast Complex in Baytown or Reliant Stadium area.
  • Teams may participate in tournaments or one-day soccer festivals locally or out of town and will seek to qualify for post-season tournaments.
  • The South Texas Youth Soccer Association offers Spring Cups of various levels for U13 and up. We will enter each team into a cup that is appropriate for them.
  • The Select Program runs from mid-July through early June depending on the playing level. Division II teams typically train from August through November and March through May, whereas Division I/Super II teams typically train from mid-July through mid-December and mid-January through early June.
  • The Select Program is intended to be a full-year program, but players may join in the spring season if there are roster spaces available on teams.
