Roy Lassiter

Director of Coaching & Methodology 

Roy Lassiter brings a wealth of elite coaching and playing experience to Gulf Coast Soccer. He has a keen eye for talent identification and development. At Gulf Coast Soccer, Coach Lassiter is responsible for developing our game model (style of play), our training model (how we train), and overall development and advancement of our players, coaches and teams within the club. 

About Roy Lassiter

Playing Career - 14 Years as a Pro and US National Team Player

  • Played 8 years with US Men’s National Team, 32 international CAPS and 4 goals, and was an alternate member of the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.
  • Played professional soccer for 14 years including 8 years in Major League Soccer with Tampa Bay, Miami, DC United, and Sporting KC, 4 years in the Costa Rican Primera Division with Alajuelense, Carmelita, and Turrialba and 1 year with Italian Serie A side Genoa. 
  • All-time leading single-season goal scorer in MLS history until 2019 setting the mark in 1996 with 27 goals
  • 1996 USSF Player of the Year Finalist (MLS)
  • 1996, 1999 Golden Boot Award (MLS)
  • MLS Championship in 1999 with DC United
  • 3-time MLS All-Star.
  • In 2011, Roy was inducted into the North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame.   

Coaching Career - 16 Years in Elite Clubs


Roy has over 16 years of coaching experience at the professional, college and youth level serving as Development Academy Director, ECNL Director, Director of Coaching and Head Coach for numberous nationally ranked teams. Throughout his career, Roy has developed a reputation for elite player development and has had 15 of his players signed by the Seattle Sounders Youth Development Academy in the last 3 years and has 5 players currently playing with the U14 & U15 US Youth National Teams.
